The End of the World
Since the Rapture is coming upon us at a rapid clip, there are just two-and-a-half things you need to do (and nice try, but it’s too late to repent and/or convert):
1) Buy THE RUDE PUNDIT’S ALMANACK.
2.5) Good. Now buy another.
2) See The Rude Pundit himself, in performance, this coming Monday at NYC’s Half King Bar!

Hear more from Alex with Rula Jebreal, Issandr El Amrani, Adbelkader Benali and Abdellah Taia tonight at 92Y for Revolutionaries in the Arab World, part of the Pen World Voices festival.

@zeb: Tweets from Tahrir →
zeb:
I heard an interview about the new book Tweets from Tahrir. I don’t usually buy blogs-to-books type projects, but I was won over by this effort.
Seems like a trend… Thanks, @zeb!

"Tweets from Tahrir" in NYC
See you at PEN American Center’s TWEETS FROM TAHRIR event at the 92nd Street Y on Wednesday, April 27th. Tickets are $20 ($15 if you’re a PEN member), but it’s for the best of causes: freedom of expression. Featuring: Rula Jebreal (Miral), Issandr El Amrani (The Arabist), Adbelkader Benali, Alex Nunns (editor of Tweets from Tahrir), and Abdellah Taia.
It really is the case that as you get older you read less fiction. And then by...
– Geoff Dyer at the Paris Review. I felt a bit unimaginative quoting the same section as Alex Balk, who made me aware of the interview, but, honestly, it’s my favorite quote.

Q: How many Cormac McCarthies does it take to... →
A: Two or perhaps three, approaching now, from beyond the tree in the long low light of morning. From some black place: a reckoning neither required nor bidden, a reckoning no judge could have ordered, but a reckoning nonetheless. One of the men carries a single glove, ready to grip the hot, bright bulb and twist it dead. The other two follow, smoking, and whisper about what is to come: the...

Six Writers Tell All About Covers and Blurbs →
This made me giggle a lot, in the most nerdy publisher of ways.
“Marketing” of course is very important in the same abstract way that astrology is very important. By the way, I know a person who has it written into her contracts that her book can’t be released while Mercury is in retrograde. Which at first seems brilliant, but then it makes me think that maybe that means all the lead-up...
