We’re on the lookout for an intern to work in our publicity department (college students or recent-grads). Feel free to reblog, RT, or pass along to anyone you think might be a good fit.
OR Books, a NYC-based publishing startup, is looking for a media-savvy college student (or recent grad) to join our team as a publicity intern. The position is part-time and entails working closely with the Publicity Manager to build media contact lists, brainstorm creative promotional outreach, plan launch parties and readings, update our Tumblr/Twitter/FB accounts, and liaise with writers and editors about our books.
Ideally you’re someone who reads both Bookforum and Boing Boing, both The New Yorker and The Awl. You’re interested in progressive ideas, you’re active on Twitter, and you have a favorite independent bookstore you can’t live without.
OR Books’ Publicity department focuses on getting titles in the press not only through the standard book review outlets — our books and authors have been featured in places such as The Daily Show, Vanity Fair, Gawker, The Rumpus, The New Yorker, and Mashable — and as the intern, you’d be working closely with the Publicity Manager to keep OR books in the media. You’d be working either remotely or in the office 2-3 days a week on both short-term projects and long-term brainstorming, and you’d also be a part of our meetings and events, getting a glimpse of every area of the company as part of the experience.
The internship is paid. Schedule is flexible. To apply, please send a quick cover letter that includes all three of these: 1) a description of your skills and interests and why they’d be right for OR Books, 2) a brief explanation of which OR Books titles seem appealing to you, and 3) a blog pitch for ONE of those titles (tell me a blog or blogger who you think should write about it and why). Please include any social media profiles you think are relevant, as well as your resume. Publishing/media experience is not required but is a huge plus. Email orintern@gmail.com with the subject line “publicity intern.” Applications due FEB 6. We look forward to hearing from you!
